The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed unanimously to re-appoint Ken Richardson as chairman and Eldon Edwards as vice-chair.
This marks Richardson's (a Democrat) second consecutive term as chair, while this marks Edwards' (a Republican) fourth consecutive term as vice chair. The vote was delayed for about five minutes because Commissioner Charity Gambill was late for the meeting. County Manager Don Adams lead the meeting until Richardson was reappointed.
The motion to re-appoint came from Democrat Commissioner Patrick Woodie, who said, "The board runs real smooth the way its been operating since I've been one here."
Republican Commissioner J. Warren Taylor seconded the motion. The board has three Democrats and two Republicans.
Following the vote, Richardson said, "My fellow commissioners, I thank you for your confidence, and that's what it is. The position of chairman is a job that I do not take lightly."
Edwards said he also appreciated the rest of the board's confidence in reappointing him. "I'll do the best I can for you in the coming year," Edwards said.
