Rain on the parade?
Parade a hit, despite long-awaited showersBy T.S. HORNEStaff Dismal weather didn't keep a sizable crowd away from downtown Sparta for last Saturday's Christmas parade, which featured about 50 entries including commercial floats, veterans, the AHS band, cub scouts, lawnmowers and antique cars. While the long-awaited rain was much needed in the area, it did serve to make life more difficult for parade goers and organizers. Even so, event organizer Sandy Rost, president of the Sparta Revitalization Committee, said sponsorship was up 50 percent over the Fourth of July parade, and that the committee hopes to build both events in the future. |
