The Alleghany County Board of Education last week updated its budget for the current fiscal year, making a total of $1,120,188 in revisions. Of that figure, $807,515 was additions to the capital outlay fund; the remaining $312,673 was net increases in the local fund.
Finance Officer Karen Leys said those budget amendments were worked out during two finance committee meetings, which followed passage of the state budget.
On June 29, just before the 2001-02 fiscal year began, the board passed an initial operating budget based on last year's figures and subject to change once the state budget picture became clearer. The N.C. General Assembly did not pass its budget until more than three months into the fiscal year.
