Two North Carolina Senators and a Congressman united to give Alleghany County Wellness Center, Inc.'s local project a $300,000 shot in the arm. The money was approved last Thursday by Congressional negotiators and is expected to be approved by President George W. Bush.

The Wellness Center's backers had asked for $1 million, but were approved for only a portion of that request.

"This amount is very good for us," Pat Sexton, chair of the committee that is overseeing the project, said in an interview Monday. "With this we have a foot in the door and we may be able to request another appropriation next year."
