Alleghany High School is planning a special event to honor local veterans on Nov. 9.
The service, slated to begin at 1:30 p.m., will be held in the old gymnasium and is being dubbed ‘Patriotic Day.' The event is in honor of Veterans' Day, which is Nov. 11.
The school is encouraging local veterans to attend the service and be honored, but is asking that vets let them know in advance if they plan to attend so that preparations can be made.
The school system is planning on gathering basic information on local vets, such as length of service and service branch, to be used during the ceremony.
So far, planned events include the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post presenting colors, performances by the AHS band and vocalists performing patriotic songs.
The community is invited to attend the event, which is free and open to the general public.
For more information or to register to attend as a local veteran, contact Winkie Clifton or Tom Smith at 372-4554.
