Alleghany County is about to have a coordinated public transportation program.
The county will begin phasing in "Alleghany in Motion" next week. "Right now we're moving from a loosely-coordinated, human services program to a consolidated, centrally-run transportation program," said Jim Page, the county's transportation director.
The program's three-phase implementation will begin Nov. 1. All three phases — routes to serve county agencies, rural general public service and out-of-county medical transportation — should be in place by about the first of the year.
Customer Agencies
Alleghany in Motion's five main agency customer groups are the Adult Developmental Vocational Program (ADVP); Alleghany County Department of Social Services; Alleghany Council on Aging; the Alleghany Partnership for Children, primarily the Alleghany County Family Resource Center; and New River Behavioral Health Care. Each of those agencies will have a representative on the transportation advisory board, which will assist in forming policy for the county's transportation program.
On Nov. 1, the program will begin providing transportation along routes to serve those agencies daily.
