An Ennice man was sentenced last week to more than 23 years in prison for sex offenses involving a child.
Tony Lee Akers Sr. of Ennice was sentenced to a minimum of 280 months (23 years, four months) and a maximum of 345 months during a special session of Alleghany Criminal Superior Court. The sentence was the result of a plea-bargain agreement.
According to documents on file at the Alleghany County Courthouse, Akers was facing six felony charges: first-degree rape of a child, first-degree sex offense, sex offense by a substitute parent, attempted sex offense by a substitute parent and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. The first two charges each carried a maximum sentence of life in prison; the other four had a total maximum sentence of 275 months.
The crimes occurred June 19 and 20, and all involved the same girl.
