Republican Harold Loyed officially pulled out of the town council race on Monday, leaving two Democratic newcomers in an uncontested race for two seats on the town's governing board.
Loyed, who currently lives on Fairfield Drive, announced his intention to withdraw from the race last Wednesday at the town office, said Kay Cox, the town's clerk to the board. Loyed said Tuesday in a brief conversation with an Alleghany News reporter that he plans to move out of the town and will not be eligible for a seat on council. All council members must live within the town's limits.
Left on the ballot are Democrat John Brady of Westview Drive, a long-time school system employee and principal, and Democrat Mike Parlier of Carson Boulevard, a local firefighter.
Brady and Parlier are vying for seats currently held by Republican Councilman C.J. Hendrix.
