False report of bomb at game nets charge

A Sparta teen netted multiple charges last week, including one charge of threatening to blow up a home football game at Woodruff Field last Friday night, according to warrants filed by Inv. Lt. Wayne Crouse of the Sparta Police Department.

Jason Troy Crouse, 17, of Raspberry Lane, was arrested on Sept. 19, the same day the threats were allegedly made and two days before the football game.

Crouse allegedly conveyed the false threat to Jessica Davis, a resident of Ennice.

The warrant states that Crouse said he "was going to place an explosive device in Woodruff Stadium at Alleghany High School during the football game on Friday....designed to destroy the stadium and injure or kill persons present by explosion."

Crouse could not be reached by presstime Tuesday; however, Lt. Rex Wyatt of the Sparta Police Department said that people in the stands were never in danger. The Sparta department determined that the report was definitely false prior to the day of the game, he noted. Even so, false reports are still felonies under N.C. law.

Warrants also charge that Crouse threatened to blow up two private homes, including the residence of Sheena Smith of Air Bellows Gap Road and the home of Jessica Davis in the Joe Place in Ennice.

Crouse is also charged with two misdemeanors, including threatening to assault Davis by grabbing her throat and choking her and with communicating threats by stating to her, "I am going to kill you," while waving a pistol in the air.

Crouse was placed under a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Alleghany County District Court on Oct. 16 to answer to the charges.
