Nile Road closing extended

A bridge closing on the Nile Road has been extended until Sept. 28, N.C. Department of Transportation officials said on Tuesday.

The bridge is located about two miles east of Independence Road and about one mile west of River Road.

The bridge officially closed to through traffic on Sept. 4 and was scheduled to reopen on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. The reason for the extension was due to difficulties in replacing the aging bridge with pipe because of work delays and uncooperative weather.

Department officials noted that the extended date is a ‘worst case' scenario. The bridge will likely be open sooner than that deadline.
