County officials are still working out details of an incentive agreement that had paid Bristol Compressors $5.7 million in taxpayer funds as of August of this year.
A portion of the funds, $1.2 million, came from Blue Ridge Electric and Skyline Telephone — both of which are member-owned cooperatives. In addition, local businesses and citizens pledged $600,000, the county pledged $4 million in payments of $400,000 per year, the Town of Sparta gave $600,000, $800,000 was awarded for grading and parking lot work, the county gave 50 acres of land worth $300,000 and the state pitched in $1 million. So far, the county has paid $2.8 million to Bristol and the group of businesses and local citizens has paid about $400,000 to the company. The town, Blue Ridge Electric and the state have paid their share in full, while Skyline has paid $450,000.
