Shriners go on with the showBy T.S. HORNEStaff Despite dismal skies and steady rain, which was heavy at times, the
annual New River Shrine Club Car Show went ahead as planned last

Sparta.
Rain fell throughout the morning as the entrants arrived to check in their prized autos, and at 10 a.m. the decision was made to continue with the show, albeit a wet one. "I'm glad we're going ahead with the show," said N.C. Trooper (and Shriner) Earl Marmie as he stood in the downpour. |

the event, which proved fairly soggy throughout. In the photo at left,
contestants await a break in the rain inside their 1953 Ford pickup as a
fellow show-goer converses with them.
