With Alleghany High School's new gymatorium/classroom complex "virtually complete," school officials hope to round out finishing touches to the construction in time for the beginning of the school year.
Students are scheduled to return to school Aug. 6. At the July 12 Alleghany County Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Duane Davis said cosmetic concerns inside and a potential drainage problem outside still need to be addressed.
"Essentially the building as a structure is complete," he said. "The classroom building is virtually ready to be occupied." However, Vannoy Construction, the building contractor, has not yet delivered a certificate of occupancy.
He said a July 6 meeting with the building architects and contractors
turned out to be a day-long event, involving a "punch-out" list of items
to be checked. "We got approval to move equipment from the old band room
to the chorus room," Davis added.
