Alleghany County Planner Jack Conaway presented the county commission with an ordinance governing wireless communication towers at the commission's regular meeting Monday night.
The ordinance comes as the county nears the four-month mark on a moratorium on the construction of new wireless communication towers. The moratorium was passed on March 5 and will expire on Sept. 5, if action is not taken.
The board agreed to try to take action on the ordinance by their mid-August meeting, which will take place on Aug. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
Conaway's proposal covers dangers from falling towers, children falling
from towers and visual impact on neighborhoods and scenic areas, which
are sometimes called ‘viewsheds.'
