Parade has more than 75 entries

Various vehicles — including military aircraft — children, animals, area dignitaries, pageant winners, churches and musicians were all part of Sparta's annual Fourth of July Parade last Saturday.

Board OKs temporary budget

The Alleghany County Board of Education decided last week to wait and hope for favorable results from the state budget process, rather than taking its cue from the county's 7.9 percent reduction of its budget request.
