Vacant home destroyed

The cause of a fire that consumed an older wood frame home on Murphy Bend Road early last Thursday morning is being investigated by the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department.

Blue Cross inks deal with AMH

Alleghany Memorial Hospital entered into a new three-year contract with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina, according to a news release from the hospital.

Budget plan ready for public hearing

With one dissenting voice, the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed to maintain a five-cent tax rate increase through the public hearing, which was slated for Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Tourist spending has slight increase here
