Golfers win first championship
The Alleghany High School golf team brought home their first state championship after the 1-A State Tournament at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill May 21-22.
Trojan coach Derrick Murphy's team of Dustin Shaw, Craig Bullins, Casey Flattery, Corey Higgins, Josh Bare and Shane Francis bested Albemarle by nine strokes in winning the two-day championship. Northwest Conference foe North Stokes finished a distant fourth.
