School board’s local budget request is up by 20 percent

The Alleghany County Board of Education on Monday approved a budget in which it asks for 19.5 percent more from the county board of commissioners than was allocated last year.

Charges dismissed against L.V. Eldridge

According to a document on file at the Alleghany County Clerk of Court’s office, charges against Alleghany Animal Control Officer L.V. Edward Eldridge have been dismissed by the office of the district attorney.

Halsey seeks damages from board’s members

Former Piney Creek Elementary School teacher Barbara G. Halsey is suing the Alleghany County Board of Education, seeking tens of thousands of dollars in damages along with reinstatement, after dropping a civil action against the board last month.

The owner of Kiddie Land day care and a former employee were charged recently with felony fraudulent misrepresentation, according to warrants filed by Investigator Calvin Friesland of the Sparta Police Department.
