AMH sponsors poison prevention program at local grade schools

Representatives of Alleghany Memorial Hospital's pharmacy helped local elementary school pupils become better informed about poison prevention last week.

Pharmacy Director Priscilla Cox and pharmacy technicians Crystal Gentry and Judy Cooper presented the programs geared to different grade levels at the schools.

Gentry showed the younger pupils some potentially dangerous similarities in appearance, such as between grape juice and cough syrup, Tic Tacs and cold tablets, chocolate candy bars and laxatives.

She said one North Carolina child had to be taken to the hospital and treated for dehydration after eating Ex-Lax.
