Georgia students visit Alleghany to help paint Sparta School mural

A number of Georgia art students visited Sparta over the weekend to work on a new mural for the Sparta Elementary School cafetorium (which serves as both a cafeteria and small auditorium).

Students from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. spent the night in the cafeteria and worked on the mural, with the help of local students from the Mountaineer Millennium program.

The local students helped work on the coloring and roughing-in phase, leaving the college students to finish up the work.

in Sparta Elementary School's cafeteria. Students from the Georgia college
came to the county on Friday night and stayed through Saturday, utilizing
beds furnished by the sheriff's department. The mural featured a mountain
sunrise, the New River and instruments.
