Former employees of Carolina Narrow Fabrics have been approved for Transition Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funding, according to local Employment Security Commission Director Arvill Scott.
"In essence this buys us a lot of time," Scott said Tuesday morning, shortly after he got verification.
It makes benefits similar to NAFTA benefits available to former employees, Scott said. TAA will pay for educational opportunities such as high school and college courses.
Scott said that while the former employees are enrolled in school they are eligible to receive extended unemployment benefits.
He also said that it would affect all Carolina Narrow employees who became totally or partically separated from employment on or after Dec. 6, 1999.
Carolina Narrow employees were recently turned down for NAFTA benefits.
For more information, or to apply for TAA benefits, former employees
should contact the Employment Security Commission.
