Alleghany County Board of Education members recently applauded the efforts of ESL (English as a Second Language) and Migrant Coordinator Sandra Pollard and others in dealing with the dramatically growing number of minority language pupils in the school system.
Pollard and Special Programs Director Janice Linker presented a report to the board at its Feb. 8 meeting on progress made since the ESL program began four years ago, and the challenges the ESL and migrant programs still face.
"We're doing the best job we've ever done," said Linker. However, "We
still have needs. We have to test children and hold them accountable."
Pollard said, "We desperately need help."
