A Sparta man was charged after a local woman was injured in a shooting in front of NAPA on Main Street the evening of Jan. 24, according to a warrant filed by Det. Lt. Wayne Crouse of the Sparta Police Department.
According to the warrant, Angela Dawn Petty was shot in the chest area with a 9mm pistol. Charged with the crime is Michael Wayne Strickland, who lists an address on the North Sparta Parkway.
Strickland, 33, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The bullet entered Petty's chest and exited from her back, passing completely through her body. The time of the incident was thought to be around 6 p.m.
Crouse said that he was unable to locate the bullet at the scene. Petty was admitted at Alleghany Memorial Hospital and was released from care Tuesday, Jan. 30. She was released in good condition, a hospital spokesperson said.
The incident was called in to police through dispatch at the Alleghany
Law Enforcement Center. The call came in to dispatch at 6:04 p.m. that a
shooting had occurred.
