The State Board of Education voted last week to delay implementation of the high school exit exam by one year.
The Exit Exam of Essential Skills was originally scheduled to be a
requirement for the graduating class of 2003, with field testing this
year. With the timetable extension, there will be item try-outs by
juniors this year and statewide field testing next year. Students
scheduled to graduate in 2004 will be the first to take the exam as a
requirement, in the spring of their junior year.
