Three men are arrested after evading deputiesBy COBY LaRUEStaff Three Virginia men netted numerous charges after they allegedly broke into a store and fled from deputies on N.C. 93 in Piney Creek, according to reports on file at the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department. The three suspects were 19-year-old Samuel Craig Cheeks of Mount Zion Road in Elk Creek, Va. and 18-year-olds Scotty August Boyer and Nathan Curtis Justice of Dublin, Va. According to the report, a witness noticed the three acting suspiciously outside Pugh's Grocery and called deputies at 6:30 a.m. with a description of the vehicle. About $700 in damage was done to the store during the break in. Deputy Steve Carrier responded to the call and spotted the vehicle on N.C. 93 heading toward Sparta. Just as Carrier approached, the suspects threw the cash drawer from the store out of the window. |

Carrier turned his vehicle around and gave persuit and the suspects stopped their vehicle about two miles down the road and took off on foot through a field near the Stratford community.
Carrier called for assistance and deputies Tim Duncan and Craig Hart and Det. Ricky Lyall responded. Hart brought his K-9 unit to the scene.
After three hours of unfruitful searching, the deputies towed the
suspects' vehicle and then got a call at 11:30 a.m. that three boys were
running on Horsehaven Road.
