In the photo at left, Sparta fire Chief Terry McGrady and Assistant Chief Roger Lineberry extinguish a Ford Escort which caught fire on N.C. 18 about one mile north of Sparta Monday afternoon. The blaze raged out of control (photo at right) before the Sparta crew arrived at the scene. The fire, which destroyed the vehicle, apparently started in the engine compartment. No one was injured.
