50 people attended Hospice of Alleghany's annual memorial service last Sunday at the Senior Citizens Center.

Shooting death is under investigation

ENNICE - The death of a Hispanic woman who suffered a gunshot wound to the midsection of her body on Nov. 29 is being investigated by the Alleghany County Sheriffs Department.

County eyes plan for public transit

Firemen save house in the Vox community

Firefighters from Sparta and Glade Creek fire departments saved a house in the Vox community Saturday night, Dec. 2, after a blaze started in the chimney and spread into other parts of the structure, according to Sparta Fire Chief Terry McGrady.

Elkin duo charged in thefts

An Elkin man and woman each netted 31 felony and six misdemeanor charges for breaking and entering and larceny, according to warrants issued Nov. 15, 17, 20 and 29 and Dec. 1.

A 57-year-old Cana, Va. man injured in what has been ruled a hunting accident in Ennice died Sunday night at 10 p.m. in the intensive care unit at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
