State Secretary of Commerce Rick Carlisle was briefed last Thursday by local officials and the Alleghany County Economic Development Corporation (ACEDC).

J.R. Vannoy and Sons Construction made the low bid on the U.S. 21 upgrade from Twin Oaks to Sparta, according to information obtained from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Demolition Derby draws about 3,000 to cap off the local fair

A crowd of about 3,000 gathered to watch 49 drivers compete in the demolition derby held Sept. 23 at the Justice Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds in Sparta, the final event of the Alleghany County Agricultural Fair.
