Mountains-to- Sea Trail gets ready to go here

The Alleghany Task Force of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) officially dedicated the Alleghany County portion of the trail last Saturday.

Numerous fugitives arrested in county

Five fugitives were picked up in the county this week in unrelated arrests, according to reports on file at the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department.

Centenarian's father fought in Civil War

Maggie Mae Miller Church of North Wilkesboro, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 7, is the last of Civil War veteran John S. Miller's 15 children from two marriages.
