Fire destroys old fish hatchery

A fire last Thursday evening destroyed the old Roaring Gap Fish Hatchery building, which had been converted into a dwelling, according to Chief Kenneth Miles of the Cherry Lane Volunteer Fire Department.

Income for farms increases in area

According to the final report of farm income estimates for 1999, Alleghany County's gross farm income increased 10.5 percent from 1998 to 1999.
