After Hurricane Floyd devastated much of eastern North Carolina last fall, residents from all over the state generously donated many items to help out the victims, and now N.C. counties are getting a payback.

County budget shows increase

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners heard County Manager Don Adams' budget message Monday night, in which he suggested no increase to the tax rate on a recommended budget that increased overall.

Turnout is dismal for primary

Turnout for the May 30 second primary was very low, with only about 2.71 percent of Republicans coming out to cast ballots in the second outing, according to Alleghany's Director of Elections Karen K. Fender.
