WCC names director for Alleghany Campus

Wilkes Community College recently appointed Chris Robinson as director of the college's satellite campuses in Alleghany and Ashe counties.

Robinson, who has been serving as director of the Ashe Campus since January of 1998, replaces Mary Tate in Alleghany. Tate recently accepted a position with Pitt Community College in Greenville, N.C.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the people in Alleghany and enhancing the class offerings here in Sparta and throughout the county," Robinson said. "There is a real synergy between the two satellite campuses and this will allow the college to offer improved services throughout the region."

Robinson will focus on the day-to-day operations of the campus and working with the community.

"Perhaps the most important part of our name is the word community," he explained. "We take that part of our mission very seriously. The Alleghany Campus belongs to the people here in the county and we want to make it a big part of their everyday lives. That, of course, includes specialized training for business and industry."

Robinson continued, "People sometimes forget the amount of training the college offers that directly benefits economic development in Alleghany County."
