Alleghany County Schools are facing the possible loss of as many as 4.5 positions as budget proposals are projecting cuts to several programs.
According to Superintendent Duane Davis, positions that may be lost include one and one half classroom teaching positions, one support position and one teacher assistant position. One other position may also be cut due to projected funding losses from several other sources.
So which positions are going to be cut?
"At this point, I can't tell you because no decision has been made," Davis said. "If we get more money, that could change the mix. I could make some guesses, but I don"t think that is fair."
According to Davis, the support position that might be cut includes one of the following: school resource officer (SRO), school psychologist, school nurses, counselors, media center worker or librarian.
