Commissioners honor Greenes with plaque

Former Alleghany County Commissioner Bob Greene was honored with a plaque, presented to his father and his widow, at a county commissioners meeting last week.

Departments get first look at list on April 5

With County Manager Don Adams reporting about $90,000 in captital inventory to be written off last week to the commissioners, several county departments have now located a number of items from their lists.

Local woman charged with embezzlement

A former Magic Video employee was charged with four counts of embezzlement last week in a case that dates back to 1997, according to warrants filed by Det. Lt. Wayne Crouse.

AHS graduation planned May 31

The Alleghany High School graduation ceremony has been set for Wednesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at Woodruff Stadium, according to a news release from AHS.

School budget request shows 16 percent hike

Alleghany County Schools are requesting a 16 percent increase in the proposed budget for the school system, which was delivered to the school board by Finance Officer Karen Leys at the school board meeting April 5.
