Soil and water group continues efforts to prevent erosion here

Land is a precious commodity everywhere, but here in Alleghany we seem to be more aware of it than in other places and one county program's main focus is saving as much soil from eroding and keeping the quality of the water as pure as possible.

Courthouse repair tops $85,000 mark

Garcia sentenced in Superior Court case

During the first session of Alleghany Superior Court this year, Jose Garcia Jr. stood before Judge Michael Helms, facing over 20 drug possession and trafficking charges. The Texas native had confessed to some of the charges he faced, according to court records.

Grandview closed for bridge work

Grandview Drive in Sparta closed to through traffic Monday, March 27, according to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Bridge Maintenance Department.
