One of Alleghany's own has captured the crown of Miss Mount Airy, a somewhat misleading title that means she will be representing a five-county area that includes Alleghany, Wilkes, Surry, Yadkin and Stokes.

County meeting is postponed

The regularly-scheduled meeting for the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners was put on hold Monday morning after the group failed to establish a quorum.

Alleghany is moved back in 5th District

After more controversy arose concerning North Carolina's legislative districts, particularly the 12th district that includes the city of Charlotte, Alleghany County has again found itself shuffled into another district.

School board moves to spend $90,000 on two acre property

During a special called-meeting held early last Friday morning, members of the Alleghany Board of Education voted to buy a two-acre tract of land adjoining Sparta Elementary School for $90,000.
