Smith Reynolds Foundation Inc. grant of $25,000 to further its work in preservation of farms and farmland in rural northwestern North Carolina. Longer school day plan eyed by board During their first monthly meeting, members of the Alleghany County Board of Education voted to approve a calendar flexibility resolution that, if approved, would allow the school system to extend the length of the school day. County gives funds to help "connect" library Commissioners agreed Monday to give the Northwestern Regional Library system an additional $6,315 in next year's budget for an Integrated Library System (ILS).
