Black history celebrated Alleghany County's African American community celebrated its heritage through a special program on Feb. 23 at the Alleghany County Library. Spring Ford employees concerned over continued layoffs Despite the rumors that have been sweeping Alleghany County concerning the shut down of another Sparta textile plant, spokespeople for Spring Ford Industries state that no announcements have been made and the plant is currently operating. Heart Fund closes by surpassing goal The Alleghany Heart Fund's annual WCOK radio auction was a big hit this year, raising a record $14,178.	Man is charged in prescription case A Sparta man landed seven felonies for allegedly having prescription medications and marijuana with the intent to sell them, according to warrants filed by Det. Lt. W.R. Crouse of the Sparta Police Department. Local man earns honors for Mount Airy business Any reservations that Hurley Vaughn had in opening his own mobile home dealership a little over a year ago have disappeared after being named the top dealership in the nation recently. The Alleghany News Over a Century of Service to Alleghany County	Medicaid expenses increase According to a report released by the Alleghany County Department of Social Services, the amount spent for the Medicaid program in Alleghany increased over nine percent during 1999.
