Grayson National Bank faces delay due to weather; targets a mid-year opening

With plans for Grayson National Bank's Sparta location to open in spring 2000 no longer a possibility, the bank's CEO Carl Richardson said recently the bank has moved the opening forward.

State to buy 226 acres near Stone Mountain

RALEIGH - State legislators approved the purchase of a 226-acre addition to Stone Mountain State Park for $678,000 on Feb. 16.

County to buy forklift, sell surplus equipment

Alleghany County Commissioners discussed purchasing a new forklift for the recycling center and declaring some equipment at the county landfill as surplus during their Monday meeting.

During their Monday meeting, Alleghany County Commissioners approved to combine two county offices and hire a county employee to head up the department.

Commissioners approve older mobile home ban

After a public hearing attended by four local residents, the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed Monday to ban mobile homes from entering the county that were manufactured prior to June, 1976.
