Local men among those honored on Battleship North CarolinaThere are 25 names inscribed on the Roll of Honor aboard the USS North Carolina of Alleghany men who gave their lives in World War II.Hayes to speak at programNASCAR show car representative Mark Hayes, who was diagnosed with cancer in 1994, will be the keynote speaker for the Relay For Life kickoff program scheduled for Feb. 8. Hayes of Yadkinville was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1994 and the cancer then spread into his lungs and head only three months later.
