Several locations report break insBy DARLENE WYATTStaff Thieves went on a breaking and entering spree over the weekend, striking at seven locations in and around Sparta. According to Sparta Police Department Chief Frank Sanders, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning the J.B. Reed Building, the Alleghany County Library, Dr. Keith Oliver's office, Alleghany Chiropractic Clinic, Ken Brady Insurance and the VFW Hall were all broken into. Sanders said the thieves apparently used the same tool to gain entry into each establishment. At most of the locations the forcible entry had left few marks. Some of the locations seemed to be unusual targets for burglaries to strike. |
AFTERMATH - Sparta Police Chief Frank Sanders and Lt. Wayne Crouse check the disarray left behind at the Alleghany Public Library. |
"There wasn't any noticeable damage at J.B. Reeds and minor damage at Keith Oliver's," said Sanders. "They did some damage to the door at Ken Brady's office and at the chiropractic clinic."
Sanders stated that the same tool was apparently used at each door, probably a small crowbar. All the break ins were discovered except for two before Monday morning.
