Office closed for New Year

The office of The Alleghany News will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 in celebration of the New Year's holiday. All advertising and news deadlines will remain the same. Anyone wishing to drop off payments or other correspondence to the office may utilize the drop slot at the front door or call 372-8999 for more information.

Y2K? Don't worry

The year 2000 should roll around without a glitch, according to almost every utility company or business that has been contacted concerning the Y2K problem.

Farmers' 1999 tree sales brisk

Alleghany County Christmas tree farmers bought in about $18 to $19 million dollars to the county this year from sales of greenery and trees.
