Hospice of Alleghany has surpassed their goal of $1,200 for the "Light Up A Life" Christmas tree project, according to spokesperson Kristal Jones.

Hospice of Alleghany has been holding the special memorial service for the past several years to help raise funds to operate the non-profit organization. The organization provides care and companionship for terminally ill patients.

Samantha Edwards, during the ceremony Sunday.

The group annually accepts donations to place a light on a Christmas tree in honor or memory of a loved one, family member or friend. The donations are in the amount of $5.

According to Jones, the total amount raised has not been determined.
