The Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce is now sending out questionnaires to local businesses in an effort to seek feedback from the community.
Chamber Executive Director Bob Choate said that the 19-question surveys will be mailed to businesses that are chamber members, but are also available to any community member who is interested in providing input. While some of the questions are clearly geared toward members (such as, Why do you belong to the Chamber?) others are aimed at non-members (If you aren't a member, what has kept you from becoming a member?).
Choate said that the questionnaires can be requested from the chamber by fax or mail, interested parties can call the chamber at 372-5473. Choate noted that those who wish to remain anonymous may do so, but names are welcomed on the surveys. He plans to mail out surveys to every chamber member business.
"We really want to try to find out how people perceive the chamber," Choate commented. "We want to get a pulse for what the community feels about the chamber; I think it is important to know that."
After the questionnaires have been returned, Choate said the information will be shared with the board as a decision-making tool.
"We will pull out all the answers and information and put them together to give to the new board and use for a working document for the next year."
As for the survey, Choate said that he has filled one out himself and that some of the questions require thought, while others are more simple "yes or no" type answers. Most people should be able to fill out the survey in less than 15 minutes, he noted.
Those interested in participating should have their survey completed and returned by mid January. For more information, contact the chamber office.
