The distribution of the Angel Tree Project items will be held this Saturday at the Emerson Black Building in Sparta, according to Cora Neville, coordinator for the event.
Children are registered for the Angel Tree Project and then Cora's Charities prepares the items for distribution. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
A free coat project headed up by Pastor Paul Atwood of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Elk Creek, Va. is also being conducted through Cora's Charities here in the county.
Coats were donated by the Salvation Army in Greensboro and are being distributed to those in need. Several other area churches are also participating in the coat project.
Cora's Charities has been designated as the distribution center for the coats to the residents of Alleghany County. Mike Atwood of Blue Ridge Plaza donated racks to Cora's to hold the coats.
Despite the influx of coats from the Salvation Army, Neville stated that her organization was still in need of men's, children's and larger size women's coats. She had distributed a lot of men's coats recently, and this had put her organization in short supply.
Some of the people who received the clothing were from out of the county, while those that will receive items for the Angel Tree Project are all from Alleghany.
"We help a lot of people and we will help anybody with clothing," stated Neville. "If you need a coat, give me a call at 372-8566 or 6543 and if I get a lot of calls, I may set up a special day to be open for a coat drive," she added.
Neville plans to close Cora's Charities after Saturday's event and open back up on Jan. 6.
Information about the coat project may also be obtained by calling Pastor Atwood at 372-5392 or Joyce Richardson at (540) 773-3133. Those interested can also call the church Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at (540) 655-4508.
