The Alleghany County Sheriff's Department is seeking leads on a break in at Blevins Building Supply that happened sometime over the weekend.

Capt. Carlton Edwards is investigating the incident, which netted about $14,000 in damages and stolen items.

Specifically, the report said that cash, equipment and tools valued at about $10,000 were taken from the store after the thief or thieves gained entry through a basement door.

In addition, fire proof filing cabinets and other property valued at about $4,000 were damaged or destroyed.

According to the report, the store was last known secure on Nov. 27. Store owner Bill Blevins entered the building on Monday morning at about 6 a.m. and discovered the break in and notified the sheriff's department.

The subject or subjects had removed an outside gate and then gained entry through the basement door, proceeding to enter the upper level of the business and damage the filing cabinets and take merchandise. The tools that were stolen include a number of Dewalt power tools, as well as Bostich and Senco power tools. The value of the tools was almost $8,000, the report said.

Also stolen were three two-way radios and other items.

Anyone with any information about the break in or with information about the whereabouts of the stolen merchandise are asked to contact the sheriff's department at 372-4455. Deputy Craig Hart also assisted with the investigation.
