Construction set to begin Oct. 18, to be completed by Spring 2000
Ground breaking held at NRBHCThursday, Oct. 14, a ceremonial ground breaking at New River Behavioral HealthCare brought together players who made possible the construction of new quarters for two displaced programs and helped create space for a new service agency. "A lot of people had to come together and make a contribution for this to be a reality and I am grateful for all their effort," Pam Andrews, director of Alleghany office of New River Behavioral HealthCare, said. Swenk Construction will begin actual work Oct. 18 on a 4,000 square-foot building that will bring together New River's psychosocial rehabilitation program and PACT (Parents and Children Together), and a new developmental day care facility operated by United Cerebral Palsy of North Carolina. At the ground breaking, there were representatives from the town and county, New River's board of directors, Food Lion and the Alleghany Partnership for Children. |

The project got its start when Alleghany Memorial Hospital announced plans to expand onto adjoining land that presently houses New River's PACT and psychosocial rehabilitation programs.
Andrews said they took the challenge to find new space as an opportunity to pull services together under one location.
