School improvement plans that originally began in Feb. of 1998 are scheduled to be completed by Oct. 11, 2000.

"The deadline for completion has been set," said Superintendent Duane Davis. "They (Vannoy and Sons) have not moved in yet, but are working frantically to finish up another project."

This project began back in October of 1997 when then Superintendent Dr. Laughing-house named a blue-ribbon committee to study school facilities and make a recommendation for Alleghany. The group was called "facilities study team."

This group was made up of not just teachers and school faculty, but parents, contractors and other members of the community with an interest in the school facilities.

After prioritizing a needs list, the committee put together a recommendation to present to the Alleghany Board of Educa-tion. In the spring of 1998, the committee made their recommendation of what needed to be built. The recommendation contained three different plans. Plan A was what was needed as each school, Plan B was a plan cut down from Plan A and Plan C was the cheapest plan with only the basic facility needs listed.

"There wasn't enough money to build it," said Davis.
