Ground breaking held at NRBHC

Thursday, Oct. 14, a ceremonial ground breaking at New River Behavioral HealthCare brought together players who made possible the construction of new quarters for two displaced programs and helped create space for a new service agency.


Courthouse cleanup contractor selected

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed to hire Allied Contract Group of Charlotte to remove lead paint from the inner surface of the outside walls of the courthouse.

School improvement plan in place for AHS

During the regular monthly meeting of the Alleghany County Board of Education, members of the board heard an improvement plan for Alleghany High School.

Facilities work is underway

School improvement plans that originally began in Feb. of 1998 are scheduled to be completed by Oct. 11, 2000.

Hillbilly show raises about $4,000 Oct. 16

The stage at the Sparta Auditorium was filled with such acts as Elvis Presley and Shania Twain during last Saturday night's Hillbilly Comedy and Variety Show.

Collection agency to assist tax collectors

Many property owners or vehicle owners in Alleghany received notices last week from a collection agency that their taxes were past due and the collection agency was now in charge of the account.
