| THE FIRE PREVENTION PARADE held last Thursday evening brought
many visitors to Sparta, including a dalmation dog from the Galax Volunteer
Fire Department and Smokey the Bear from the North Carolina Forest Service.
In the photo at right, Chris Johnson gets a big hug from the fire parade
mascot. Smokey the Bear greets the children as they enter the Sparta Fire
Department building for a reception held after the parade in the photo
below left. In the photo below right, the dalmation sits atop a fire truck
as it makes its way up Main Street during the parade.
